Booth, demo and loads of networking! BSC and CLASS at the Smart City Expo World Congress 2019

The Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC) participated with the CLASS project in the Smart City Expo World Congress (SCEWC), one of the biggest smart city events in the world, that took place on 19-21 November 2019 in Barcelona.

SCEWC is a unique global event focusing on urban transformation bringing together leading figures of the smart city ecosystem. BSC and CLASS were part of the exhibitor Generalitat de Catalunya at the dedicated Smart Catalonia area along with other innovative projects and initiatives. At this space, BSC showcased an interactive demonstration of the CLASS software architecture being implemented on connected cars at the smart urban area of MASA in the city of Modena, Italy, and the public tram network of Florence with the European project ELASTIC.

Due to its popularity and international character, the event proved an excellent opportunity to become a point of reference within the novel projects of Catalonia as well as Europe and the world. With over 24.000 attendees from 146 countries and over 1000 exhibitors at SCEWC, the CLASS experts had the opportunity to conduct numerous meetings and interactions with companies and industry experts to discuss potential collaborations. The booth was attended by the CLASS and ELASTIC project coordinator Eduardo Quiñones and his team from BSC as well as representatives from other CLASS partners, such as Roberto Cavicchioli from the Università degli studi di Modena e Reggio Emilia (UNIMORE) and Claudio Forghieri from Comune di Modena.

“SCEWC was an exciting event, full of opportunities for potential collaborations with industry experts, policy makers and municipalities”, says CLASS coordinator Eduardo Quiñones. “I had several meetings with participants and fellow exhibitors where I explained our projects and use cases and heard about their technologies and applications - a lot of useful discussions to follow up on”, he adds.
