Extension of COMPSs programming environment to provide real-time guarantees for CLASS

In June 2018, the Workflows and Distributed Computing team at Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC) announced the release of version 2.3 (also known as Daisy) of the programming environment COMPSs.

COMPSs is at the heart of the big-data software architecture developed by the CLASS project, and responsible for orchestrating cloud and edge computing resources, and so efficiently distributing data analytics workloads along the compute continuum.

“By enhancing COMPSs functionalities, we aim to provide real-time guarantees to data analytics, which is the most important requirement for the smart city and connected vehicle use case provided by the City of Modena and Maserati,” says Eduardo Quiñones, CLASS project coordinator.

Real-time guarantees are of utmost importance for smart cities, as they are crucial for the safe operation of cyber-physical systems. The time to process a stimulus and give a response has to be the lowest possible. This is why the extension of COMPSs is one of the main outcomes of the CLASS project.
